Feature time! I wanna introduce to you a lovely friend of mine, and her awesome hand made work!

Her name is Mina Vesović, and she makes the beautiful coats I'm going to show here today ;) she's from Belgrade, Serbia, and a textile and fashion designer by The College of Textile - Design, Technology and Managment - DTM with a MA by the College of Design.


A while ago, she had her first solo presentation with her collection of coats, which she based on the characteristics and colors from the traditional Serbian costumes, using beautiful hand stitched embroidery patterns. Each coat is unique and has it's own figure and lines, as Mina said herself "My designs are very colorful and unique, and I don't have just one inspiration, I'm always trying to use many different things and make something unique from them."

Aside from the coats, Mina has also done decoration related works such as courtains, and a handprinted changing room cabin, and one-piece productions, like the vest she made specifically for Mika, which you can see below:

Reminds that there's time to change

Pictures from the Bienal Brasileira de Design! (Brazilian Design Biennial)

I know I haven't written the last post in portuguese yet but....(I like to write in english better.Shh. Don't tell anyone.)

I particularly enjoyed the exposition on raw materials.

Natural rubber.

Curauá. It's a plant similar to pineapple, and it's been used make fibers, from fabric to something similar to glass fiber.

Fish skin. It's being made as an alternative material for bags, jewelry, shoes and etc. Also helps with the problem of disposing all the skin that is left from the food industry.

Stoll made of cardboard and fabric (they can take up to 130 kilos).

A pretty flower in a vase

Well, it's been a while! Mostly 'cause I haven't been founding anything to post really =p I've been working at something, but I'm not going to show it just yet (it's something for Mika's concert at the Planeta Terra Festival in november).

I've been in Curitiba the last week, and staying 'till sunday, mostly for the Bienal Brasileira de Design. Already went to the part of it at MON (Museu Oscar Niemeyer) wich's about raw materials, and it was awesome. A lot of things being developed on natural fibers and rubber, and in the second part how recyclables are being re-used in all sorts of ways.

And of course, went a little shopping for books (can't resist a bookstore...) and fabrics. Awesome artichoke printed fabric! (I find artichokes amazingly beautiful btw... didn't know they blossomed 'till a few months ago). There was this little restaurant in the way I always took to go to the Leather school, and they always had sunflowers or blossomed artichokes on a little round table on the front, that's the first time I really saw one, although someone had told me about that some time before.

More pictures from the course at Scuola del Cuoio

While waiting for the sewing machine, I took the time to figure a way to make a thumbring for the chinese archery classes at the Pa Kua school. It's not the most amazing thing in the world, but it works fine XD

And here is the final result of the project. The strap didn't came out exactly like I wanted, but it was really hard to find enought leather to make such a long braid. I actually like the colors, but it turned out a lot more rustic than I expected.

Classes are over....

And I managed to get some of the pictures.

Our final project for the course was a bag. I chose a rather simple design, since I decided to hand stitch it (just poking the leather to make the holes takes a hole lot of time...)

Here's a closer view of the stitching, from a side piece.

I decided to have no lining on it, and leave all the sides raw. The only part that was sewed from the inside and turned, were the bottom corners.
